FRANTIŠEK ROMAN DRAGOUN
František Roman Dragoun, painter(October 21, 1916 - July 2, 2005 in Pisek).
After graduating from secondary school in Písek, he studied the Prague Academy of Fine Arts, which he completed in 1946. He was a pupil of professors Loukota, Švabinský and Nechleba.
Dragoun was a classically oriented painter and portrait artist, painting landscapes, still lifes and portraits of celebrities from home and abroad. His extensive and varied work is a reflection of honest and masterful work, patriotism and faith, coupled with a great love for the family hearth, people and nature. He also taught many painters and architects, illustrated books and translated monographs and texts by artists from the German language. He was a contributor to the cultural revue, Otavín. Dragoun's poetic and philosophical writing is known to us, thanks to the creation of his son Roman, in which many of his poetic texts are set to music.
During his life, Dragoun received the International Award Of Masaryk University, the University of Veterinary in Brno Award, the Masaryk Academy of Arts in Prague Award and the decoration of Saint Lazarus of Jerusalem.
Písek's publishing house, Praam, published a multimedia CD during 2006-2008 with Dragoun's texts, images and authentic memories. It also edited a comprehensive monograph, with accompanying text by authors Roman Kubička and Václav Kinský, as well as other reminiscences, especially of Dragoun's students and friends.
